The kitchen can become the heart and soul of the home, for both young and old, and here are some recipes to make quarantine a little lighter.
These days at home can turn into a real merry-go-round if we are not careful. Well, the first and second time around there are plenty of activities to do at home, but when you've been at home for twenty days all you want to do is get off that thing and stop the floor moving.
Let's say it's the "stop the world, I want to get off" phase. But it doesn't have to be like that. With a little initiative and creativity, even the most trivial activities can fill these days with variety.
Previously we recommended some activities and games to do at home for the youngest members of the family. Now we are going to transfer all that energy to the kitchen!
The recipes we are going to suggest here require a lot of hands-on work and avoiding knives as much as possible. We recommend that you add some fruit or vegetables to any of these recipes, Salad is power! but let's keep the children well away from sharp things.
Right, everybody ready? First of all, wash your hands!
Oatmeal and honey bread

Something soft, fluffy and a little sweet, ideal to whet your appetite. You will need:
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 1/2 cup wheat flour
- 1 1/3 cup rolled oats
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 sachet of yeast
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/3 cup honey
We have a large bowl in which we add the sugar, followed by the yeast and the milk.
Sieve two cups of flour into another bowl, add the flour and mix well.
Let's start with the fun stuff, let's pour in the honey! And remember the mixture we separated earlier? Well, it's time to combine it all.
Add the butter and it's time to get busy because it's time to knead until everything is well integrated. Remember the half cup of flour that we set aside before? Well, it's your joker. If you see that the dough is sticking too much, add that flour.
Place the dough in an oiled bowl and let it rest for at least an hour. Ideally, wait until it has doubled in volume.
Cover the worktop with flour and place the dough on it. Knead for a couple of minutes. Then coat the inside of the mould with butter and insert the dough well into the mould.
Leave to rise for a while, at least thirty minutes. Then brush the surface of the bread with honey and sprinkle with oat flakes according to taste.
Just bake it in the oven at medium-low temperature until golden brown, and that's it!

Carrot croquettes

It's time to move on to the main course, and yes, that means Getting your hands dirty Vol.2. You will need:
- 1 onion
- 250gr carrots
- 300ml skimmed milk
- 50gr wholemeal flour
- Olive oil
- 1 egg
- Breadcrumbs
- Salt
This is the part for an adult to do: grate the vegetables. Heat some oil in a pan and add the grated onion and salt. Stir fry for five minutes.
When you see that the onion has poached well, add the grated carrot. Wait for it to poach too. Then add the wholemeal flour and mix for a few minutes.
Then remove from the heat and add the cold milk. Stir for a while until it is well integrated and return it to the heat to give it the final touch.
Transfer the dough to a bowl and cover. Chill in the fridge for a few hours.
And now for the fun part that involves the whole family, wrapping the croquettes!
Make little balls with the croquettes and roll them in egg and breadcrumbs to make them compact. If you make a lot of them, you can freeze them.
Otherwise, all you have to do is fry them and, bon appétit!
Chocolate chip biscuits

And now for the last and most fun bite of all, the biscuits!
- 250gr wheat flour
- 85gr butter
- 150g sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 sachet of yeast
- 1 tbsp vanilla essence
- 100gr chocolate
Melt the butter and mix it with the sugar, keep it there until it forms a creamy mass.
Add the egg and vanilla essence to the mixture. A little tip, there is never too much vanilla essence.
In a separate bowl, sift the flour and add the yeast. When everything is well integrated, add the previous mixture.
If the mixture starts to rebel, knead it with your hands. Yes, Getting your hands dirty Vol.3 is in the room. Add the chocolate chips and knead into a big ball.
Now it is time to divide it into smaller balls, flatten them and place them in the oven. This can be on a baking dish or directly on baking paper, but if you use a baking dish, remember to grease it with a little butter beforehand.
Bake the biscuits until golden brown and once they are cool, they are ready to serve!
Super trick of the day. If instead of small balls, you make them bigger, you can use them as wafers for your favourite ice creams at home, we assure you that they go with everything. This way, the biscuits are transformed into a fully-fledged dessert.
