Senda: How did you discover the art of painting with wine?
Marten: After many years in the world of painting and living in a wine region, I wanted to transform the art that exists in a wine bottle into art on a blank sheet; after many tests and seeing that the works lasted, I decided to take this path, to which I have been professionally dedicated for 5 years.
Until recently, you only did pastel drawing professionally, what technique do you prefer?
I feel very comfortable with both, but currently I only dedicate myself to painting with wine.
Have you created any of your works for other parts of the world?
Yes, I have work in the USA, the Netherlands, France, Italy and the UK.
What is live painting about?
It is an activity that I carry out in tastings, pairing dinners and events where wine is the protagonist and it consists of creating a work of art in a short period of time (between 1 and 2 hours), the result offers to see how a work of art made live can be as original as the one created in the studio, with less work but no less quality and originality.

Does the color of wine change much when it's on paper?
Each wine, each vintage, each grape variety, has its own tone and this is accentuated by oxidation, giving greater beauty to the work.
What type of wine do you most enjoy working with? Why?
Each wine has its own beauty and behaves differently on the plate; they all fascinate me and always create an uncertainty in the final result that makes the creation of the work even more exciting.
How important is vineyard care to your work?
I would say it's the other way around; for me, the winemaker's work, their effort and perseverance, is so important that my obligation is to do a good deed with their wine out of respect for their work and dedication.
You run workshops for all ages. Is there any difference between them?
Yes, I run several workshops, always tailored to the ages of the participants. For children and young people, they paint with non-alcoholic wine and recycle the corks from wine bottles. For adults, we discuss the wine used and taste it while painting with it. I also run workshops for families where creativity and collaboration between parents and children make art its greatest expression.
If there's one thing I always like to point out, it's that to experiment with wine painting you don't need to know how to draw, you just need to want to experiment and enjoy this new technique.
Welcome to the art studio, a glass of cava for the adults and grape juice for the children, visit the workshop, screenings of the wine region, explanation of the technique of painting with wine, a very dynamic and fun practical workshop, to finish we will have a brunch in the garden.
Do you think it would be interesting to include this activity in Catalan schools?
Yes, I'm already running them in some of them, and the results are truly impressive. In these workshops, we explore wine culture, learn about the landscapes, the different growth cycles of the vines, and the colors of the grape varieties from a different perspective—from the world of art.
What projects would you like to undertake next?
I have many projects and a strong desire to share this experience with many people, creating fully personalized activities within wine painting, showcasing our wine region and conveying respect for the environment.
I look forward to your visit to my painting studio or to seeing you at one of the activities I organize throughout Catalonia or the Peninsula.
I am also currently preparing an exhibition with wines from all over the world, enjoying varieties and shades unknown to me until now.
This exhibition will tour the Iberian Peninsula and abroad. For more information about my activities or my work, please visit my website. tintaivi.com or find me on social media as tintaivi on Facebook and Twitter or tinta_i_vi on Instagram.
