Former leprosarium in Abades

Located on the coast of Arico, Tenerife, you can see a building crowned with a large cross. It is an authentic abandoned cityIt is made of rough stone from the south, the colour of which blends in with the landscape. It consists of a group of 41 buildings, among which "the church" stands out, located at the highest point and visible from the whole complex.
The Abades Sanatorium was designed to house leprosy patients, it was believed that the solution to this medical problem was to isolate those affected in places that had favourable climatic conditions and were far from the main population centres to avoid people's fear of contagion.
Nowadays, it is a meeting point for fans of paintball, photography and night raves. Popular legends also say that rituals are performed here and that there are paranormal presences, but we'll leave that to more qualified investigators.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife Spa

La Gordejuela water elevator

Due to the amount of water that emanated from this coastal cliff in Los Realejos, the construction of this hydraulic pumping stationwhich was used to lift water to the cultivation areas.
The building has 5 floors built on an almost vertical cliff, but currently the levels are buried due to the rubble and deterioration of the building. For the curious who want to visit and access this place, it is possible to do so by following the Rambla de Castro path.
Hermitage of San José in El Escobonal

Belonging to the municipality of Güimar, in the south of the island, are the remains of a architectural work totally abandoned and of which only the memory of what it once was remains. Only three walls remain of this original mid-18th century building.
A storm destroyed it in 1927 and there were no means or subsidies to restore it until 2003, when the ruins and the altar were blessed, and the accesses, floor and lighting of the chapel were modernised.
