The Senda step by step
1º The route starts in Puerto de las Galletas. There, a small boat (11 seats), in a limited group of 2 to 6 people, will leave and sail for 30 minutes through the zone of Malpais de la Rasca, a protected area with volcanic landscapes where large boats are not allowed.
2º During the journey, our instructor will give you details about marine life and the surroundings. The boat will then drop anchor in El Palmar, an area known for having a large number of native birds nest. This place is privileged spot for bird watching, so we recommend you to bring binoculars! (bird watching is not included in the activity, it’s just a recommendation!)
3º We will then give participants the equipment for snorkeling: diving goggles, snorkels, flippers and wet suits that offer better floatability, safety and comfort than a lifejacket.
4º A quick “how to snorkel” will be provided by the instructor for those who have never tried snorkeling before. For one hour you can enjoy the marine life, swim alongside turtles, rays and shoals of endemic fishes of the Canary Islands: bogas, damselfish, viejas, white sea bream, etc.
5º The ideal time for sighting. Our guide will invite the participants to immerse themselves in just the right moment for the sighting of turtles and stingrays. In addition, the guide, who knows the marine ecosystem, will accompany the participants during the tour.
6º Enjoy the experience and respect the animals and the environment. For an hour you can enjoy marine life, swim with the “bishop” turtles and manta rays that live in the area. You can also see some schools of fish of the most representative marine fauna of the Canary Islands: bogas, fulas, viejas, sargos, etc.
Participants should respect the animals and maintain the necessary distance. This activity is run in small groups with a qualified instructor precisely to minimise the impact on the environment.
The team in charge complies with the Senda Ecoway commitment letter, due to its emphasis on doing respectful snorkeling, respecting animals and maintaining the necessary distance. In addition, during the activity they collect the garbage found (plastics, etc.) and have a plastic reduction and waste separation policy.
7º Throughout the experience, we will take high quality photos to record the memory of the experience. We offering to you this photo journal for 20€ (optional) or video for 65€ (optional).
Note: The port of departure could change to ‘Los Cristianos’ if the sea conditions make it necessary.
