Mountain activities
As our island has everything, if you are looking for an alternative to the sea or if you are more of a mountain lover, here is a list of the best things to do:
Watching the sunset and the stars from Mount Teide
Tenerife is an incredible island and not just because of its climate or its people. The island holds true wonders with plenty of things to do.
And one of the things to do in Tenerife free is to observe the starry sky. The island's peaks, far from light pollution, make it the best place for this activity.
So much so that in 2014 the sky of the Teide National Park was included in the ".Starligh Destinations". Certifying that stargazing in the Teide National Park complies with the requirements and procedures established for the protection of the sky.
We recommend the Tabonal Negro viewpointThe hotel is located on the side of the TF-21 road, with a small car park where you can park in peace and quiet and enjoy the views of the sunset and the spectacle of the stars below.
Hiking in the Barranco de Masca ravine
It is very likely that you are familiar with this place, in recent years it has become one of the busiest trails in Tenerife.
Located in the southwest of the island, Masca hides a beautiful landscape of cliffs. This trail of average difficulty consists of a 4-hour descent (5.3 km) through lava giants.
Once you reach the beach at the end of the path, you return by boat to Los Gigantes, although there are those who dare to do it by kayak.
The visit to the Masca ravine requires some planning as access to the ravine is limited daily and it is necessary to reserve a place in advance..
The carrying capacity of this resource had passed the limit at which its enjoyment was sustainable. You will need to check availability and make a reservation.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Masca jetty is currently closed, and it is not possible to leave by sea. This means that the route involves descending and ascending the same way back.
Hiking in Buenavista del Norte
Another mountain plan not to be missed is the trail through the Isla Baja to Playa de las Arenas. The west of Tenerife is presented as the most unknown and least explored area by travellers and residents.
However, there are places with a particular charm, as is the case of this trail.
A beautiful path of 2.7 km in approximately 1 hour. The route is simple, comfortable and very attractive as there are several stops of special interest along the way.
- Church of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios
- Los Lavaderos
- Hermitage of La Visitación and Hacienda de La Fuente
- Viewpoint Playa de Los Barqueros
- Las Salinas
- Archaeological Site
- Las Arenas Beach
Enjoying a picnic on a lookout point
A quiet and different plan, enjoy a picnic in one of the most amazing viewpoints.
The Viewpoint 500 steps in Tacoronte is a fantastic place surrounded by nature to enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Teide over one of the wildest beaches of Tenerife, the Arenal beach, also known by many as Playa de la Garañona (its access is very complicated and dangerous).
The views are truly breathtaking, and the effort of climbing the steps is well worth it. On one section of the stairs there is a wooden structure where you can take photos and why not enjoy a picnic or an aperitif with these views and the sound of the sea.
