30 May, Canary Islands Day
The 30th of May is a very important day for the Canary Islands, on which we celebrate the anniversary of the first session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This milestone marked a change of dynamics in the management of the islands. That is why every time this date arrives the islanders carry out a series of typical activities for both adults and children.
Activities to do on Canary Islands Day
Although it is an archipelago, each island has its own customs and traditions since ancient times. The cultural diversity from the time when the islands were inhabited by the Guanches is due to the fact that they were not navigators, so there was no connection between the islands.
This has changed with the passage of time and social development. Nowadays, the sea is a resource in which Canarians feel comfortable. Fishing, sailing and swimming are some of the many activities that can be carried out there.
That is why a characteristic activity of the Canary Islands Day is the Gran Canaria Island Lateen Sailing Cup. In this competition you will be able to see a sailing competition of up to 8 boats in the marina of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
A fascinating experience to visualise and feel connected to the ocean around us.

Activities for children
Another way to celebrate this great day is to taste the local gastronomy, there are many guachinches and family houses that make special meals for this particular day.
On the other hand, it is the public bodies themselves that are responsible for carrying out free tasting activities in various municipalities. Such is the case of Teror on the island of Gran Canaria where you will be able to see an exhibition of shepherd's leaping which will conclude with a tasting of typical local products.
This activity is recommended for adults and youngsters alike, as they will have a visual and gastronomic representation of the traditions of yesteryear.
In the event that the weather is not suitable for enjoying this beautiful day outdoors, there are several options that can be done from home.
The youngest children have the technological tools to develop them. Our recommendation are the activities created by the teacher J.Antonio from the centre. CP. Cesar Manrique.
In its websiteIn the children's area, we can find various games for children, in which they can learn and get to know the local culture. Puzzles, maps and quizzes are some of the games that can be played.

Activities for adults
Canarian culture and heritage is one of our most valued assets. That is why we recommend that adults celebrate this day by going to various museums of heritage interest and delve into our culture.
There are many institutions around the islands, such as La Casa Museo de Perez Galdós, La Casa Colón, El Museo Iberoamericano de Artesanía, La Casa de los Balcones, etc.
Complementing these activities with local gastronomy can be a complete experience for the day in the Canary Islands, where you can enrich your heritage and culture, but also gastronomically.
Apart from these activities, every year some municipalities organise various events in their Canary Islands Day festivities.
Some are recognised as Canary Island day in the Canary Islands. Neighbourhood where exhibitions and award ceremonies are held. This activity for adults can also be another way of commemorating this day.
