The tour begins in a bright gallery where works by artists such as César Manrique, Pepe Dámaso and Millares can be seen. Visitors then enter Saramago's modest study, where family mementos, personal objects and the iconic Nobel Prize for Literature he received in 1998 are kept.
The walk continues through the bedroom, where the author died in 2010, and the living room, decorated with paintings by Tàpies and Oscar Niemeyer. From here, you enter the garden, a space of peace and reflection that Saramago used to read and write, with spectacular views of the beach.
One of the most important spaces is the library, built in 2006. In it, the writer wrote his last two novels, The elephant's journey y Cain. There is also the Board Room, which houses an engraving by Gao Xingjian, also a Nobel Laureate in Literature, and is currently used for meetings and cultural events.
Visitors have the possibility to purchase books from Saramago and exclusive souvenirs in the museum shop. The tour can be guided or self-guided, available from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 14:30, with the last tour at 13:30.
