RAVINE OF LAS PE\u00d1ITAS.<\/h2>\n

Starting in the south of the island,<\/strong> This ravine is considered to be an otherworldly landscape in the interior of Fuerteventura, where it coexists with an extensive coastline of kilometres of paradisiacal beaches and contrasts<\/strong> that take us to an ancient world where time seems to have stood still.<\/p>\n

RAVINE OF THE TOWERS.<\/h2>\n

We now move to the municipality of Antigua<\/strong>where we find the La Torre Ravine<\/a>named after the Tower for military use<\/strong> that is there.<\/p>\n

It is one of the towers that form part of the so-called Betancurian castles, which were works for military use<\/strong> which were ordered to be built by the Franco-Normans John de B\u00e9thencourt and Gadifer de la Salle.<\/p>\n

The earliest known reference to this gorge goes back to the s. XVI<\/strong>The remains of the tower were found, of which there was no further news other than the toponymy of the ravine<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Its construction in the form of circular and irregular floor plan<\/strong> was a strategy to camouflage the site with the surroundings so that it would not be so visible, but still provide a wide field of vision both towards the coast and towards the centre of the island.<\/p>\n

DAM OF THE MILLS.<\/h2>\n

The Los Molinos Dam<\/a> is located in the ravine of the same name in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario. <\/p>\n

It is the largest accumulation of freshwater on the island<\/strong>. Thanks to this, many types of birds<\/strong> are driven to live in the area, making it one of the best birdwatching areas on the island.<\/p>\n

Its construction was motivated by the need to supply water for irrigation to the Agricultural Colony of Las Parcelas<\/strong> which was established at a distance of two kilometres down the ravine. For this purpose, a canal and a network of irrigation ditches were built to make it possible to risk the crop fields.<\/p>\n

The work began in 1943 and was inaugurated three years later. Initially, the reservoir had a capacity of 500,000 cubic metres, but it was later increased to one million cubic meters<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Currently, it is the largest capacity dam on the island<\/strong> and its location in the middle of a mountainous landscape, offers us one of the images of the the most contrasting scenery on the island.<\/strong><\/p>\n
